Nana's Summer in the South Continues

Nana’s Summer in the South Continues

I am happy to report that play dough went well.  Judah and Nana, collaborating on the recipe, came up with pale pink and vibrant blue clumps of homemade clay.  We have spent a portion of two days now forming all kinds of good stuff like chubby snakes, multiple circles and huge mountain ranges…as huge as one can get from 2 cups flour, ½ cup salt, 1 tsp. oil and ½ cup water.  We have managed to keep our dough close to Judah’s little table thus avoiding multitudes of small sticky play dough particles spread on carpet, chairs and, in general, throughout the house.

We ventured out for an evening walk taking on  voracious Georgia mosquitos, but since our destination was a tree laden with ripe, sweet figs, the romp through woods seemed worth it. After, our new attempt at a bath went much better.  We blew bubbles, decorated the sides of the tub with letters and numbers, and dumped water on Nana and Judah’s heads with various cups and tugboat toys in anticipation of the big shampoo.  Nana knew that she had truly hit her stride when Judah stood to do pee pee in the tub, and she stayed put and smiled.  The best parts for Nana were towel cuddles and video together time during which Nana was allowed to play with Judah’s long, fine hair, untangling knots with fingers and then, finally, a gentle brush.  What a beautiful boy just before bedtime.

Today, Judah had a male presence when Azis, his July caregiver took him swimming so Nana could accompany Laura and Darla to the farm.  While we didn’t do nearly the harvest that I’ve done in the past, it felt good picking peppers, even though they were the bruised veggies marked for decomposition in the forest.  The afternoon marches on, and I am proud to report that I did get Judah down for his afternoon nap even though the electricity went out just as we were finishing story and contemplating crib.  Judah climbed down off my lap and tried hard to fix his sound machine; fortunately, I was able to persuade him that sleep was a bigger issue.  Air conditioning is back on now, and I hope to grab a wink or two of my own.

So have a good day friends…stay cool…library time calls to us when Judah awakens and we venture “ouside.”

                                                               With best regards,
                                                         Nana from the Deep South
